Fairy tale artist Gustaf Teggren, whose work shaped the look of Disney's Snow White & Pinocchio, was born in 1896. His work was heavily influenced by such illustrators as John Bauer & Arthur Rackham. He would later illustrate such Golden Books as The Pokey Little Puppy.

In fact, The Hobbit (1977) pretty much set the tone for the late 70's/early 80's in general with the murky color palettes, dark fairy tale atmosphere, and Arthur Rackham influence echoing in the work of Don Bluth, Ralph Bakshi, Jim Henson, and even Disney itself (by the mid 80's)
