To celebrate 20 years of the Sonic franchise, Archie had done a four part mini story in the main comics that involved Sonic reliving an abridged version of the events of Sonic 1 and 2.

Three out of the four covers were reimaginings of the first three games' American box art.

It sounds like you just dont like how their designs look. Best get used to it while you can, the revamps and reimaginings are all just trendy, in 20 years they wont be the same but we'll still be seeing these designs in some shape and form. They arent going anywhere.
