If you've been to the Big Rapids Community Library, you may have noticed the new Summer Reading Program banner. If not, that's cool - I get to share the drawings that I designed now! There are 3 total, so here's the first: a little bulldog!

day 31 - Monkfish

Yet another fish with many names, the monkfish is also called sea-devil, frog-fish and fishing-frog. They're a kind of anglerfish that lives on the muddy sea floor and can live 20+ years.

day 30 - Blue Whale
(I drew this lady last year as the only drawing that I did, so here's a fun redraw! She lost her arm while escaping from hunters.)🐳🐳🐳

day 29 - Barracuda

Barracuda are large fish that live in tropical waters. They are aggressive hunters, with sharp teeth and able to swim 25 mph - and because of their size they have few predators other than sharks and whales.

day 28 - Goldfish
(A more traditional to make up for the last atrocity)
Goldfish are descend from carp, with hundreds of varieties worldwide. They can live up to 30 yrs and can grow up to 20+ inches long!

day 27 - Salmon
(I'm allowed one dumb looking one right?😂)
Most salmon are anadromous - big word for being born in freshwater, then migrate to the ocean, and then return to spawn.

day 26 - Crocodile

Saltwater crocodiles are the largest crocodiles in the world.

I know this is late - but I should be able to finish all of MerMay by the end of the day!

day 24 - Oarfish

Oarfish are the longest known bony fish - up to 56 ft and weigh 600 lbs! They're the culprits behind legendary sea snakes but they're harmless to humans - they feed on plankton.

day 23 - Sea Turtle

There are currently 7 species of sea turtles in the world and they've been around for 110 million years. Females come back to the same beaches they were born to lay up to 190 eggs!

day 22 - Starfish ⭐

There are over 2,000 species of starfish in the ocean! Most have 5 arms, but some can have up to 20 or 40! They have eyes on the tip of each arm and their "blood" is really just filtered seawater.

day 16

Zebra Turkeyfish, Lionfish, Ornate Butterfly Cod, Poison Sorcpion - this fish has sooooo many names! Despite their fantastic appearance, they lead solitary lives and like to hide in rock crevices and bunches of coral.

day15 - Snail 🐌

There are so many different species of sea snails that it's difficult to lump them together with simple descriptions. Some are highly venomous, have lungs instead of gills, or don't even use/have shells.

day13 -
The Chambered Nautilus is a kind of cephalopod, realted to octopui, squid and cuttlefish. They have over 90 suckerless tentacles and is often called "a living fossil" having changed very little in 400 million years.

day10 -
Manta Rays don't have a defensive spine on it's tail like most other rays - but with a 20 foot wingspan, what do you need protection from? Despite their large size, manta rays are filter feeders and love plankton.
