I mean, Sonic's roots are in surrealism. Even just looking at promotional stuff, and in game stuff Sonic's world is Detailed, but also outlandish. Not Just Cartoony bs with bright colors. Even things like the Egg Carrier in all it's crazy glory, has purpose to it's design.
