One of his most tragic works is Fear. He clutches his niece, the future, with terror. Yet even in the darkness stars & a lantern offer hope. Self-Portrait with Key (1941), Fear (Self-Portrait with his Niece, Marianne) 1941, Camp Synagogue (1941), Self Portrait with Felka (1942)

My condolences to the families of Poway Synagogue shooting victims. Hate crimes must be fought, no matter if against Jews, Muslims or Christians.
Otto Weidt's factory at 39 Rosenthaler Straße, Berlin. In 1930, the neighbourhood had hundreds of Jewish institutions from synagogues to kosher restaurants. After 1933, almost all were closed or under Nazi control. (4)
Today's comic was inspired by friend whose young daughter was frightened to decorate for Hanukkah after the horrible Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. So I'm decorating (and posting this cartoon) in solidarity.

Sending out 2 the world Marc Chagall, Around Her, 1945. Evil cannot destroy love, family & faith, my heart goes out 2 those suffering fr this tragedy. #TreeOfLifeSynagogue

In 1924, 'Synagogue'- part of the @BPLBoston murals - was vandalised with ink. Even after its unveiling in 1919, many felt the contrast between this work and its pair 'Church' (one blind, the other triumphant) was anti-semitic, which may have contributed to its defacement. (1/2)
