I’m a huge Final Fantasy fan, but can someone please explain to me why early-game linearity and outlandish lore worked for FFX with its mass hallucination athletes and world-ending whale yet somehow don’t for FFXIII with its religious dystopia and indisputably badass female lead?

Here's some trivia:
The original intent was to be cool and outlandish in contrast to so-called "cute and flawless" timely trends.

But in retrospect, Sonic is still winds up looking cute, as he was only made to look "edgy" in reference to other mascot characters at the time.

I fucking loved everything about Stepford Wives both as a book and as a film. Everything is so outlandishly insane in concept and execution that its vastly entertaining to see thru the whole experience in real time.

Its fictional! Its not suppose to be taken seriously feminists!

The rockhoppers on the left are heading out to sea, the ones on the right are heading back to the rookery having been out at sea. I love the conflab they have when they meet... and the confused penguin at the end!! 😂

I had one whose talent was flammable hair bc I wanted to be wacky and outlandish instead of having another pony with a pencil on its flank

Sweet kind they/them has an arm made of wax that just.. melts sometimes. An important figure notices this, and sets off a whole mess of sci-fi flavored hide-and-seek. Ft. A bird-man who's scared of heights, three outlandish gay/poly pirates, and.. space whales?
