Not Bronze Age, but did you read L.A.W. (Living Assualt Weapons) published in 1999 by DC Comics? The series featured the Charlton heroes.

Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Peacemaker, Nightshade, The Question, and Judomaster. Bob Layton and Dick Giordano were the creators.

Flat colours are no shading, shading is with all the lights and highlights.

For example: the left image has all the colours as one shade, or 'flat', with no shading whatsoever, whereas the second one has all different colours to indicate the weight and form!
