Oh sharper shading? What I like to do for that is just use my normal pen that I use for lineart. Thats what I did for these here in fact (well two of them I used a mixture of my sharper and softer shading but you can still see the sharper kind)

I did some watercolor-style painting on some characters depicting normal lighting, fine. But then I start trying to do this dramatic lighting and my motivation plummets. It looks muddy.

I guess I need to keep some of the color on separate layers to keep it sharper.

alternatively you can just apply posterization > mosaic > posterization for a similar effect

there's a way to finesse GIMP to create even sharper mosaic transitions but I can't for the life of me remember what on earth the process was
