That's not Racoon Mario, it's Mario in the Tanoki suit. A Tanoki is a Racoon Dog. That said, the Tanoki is said to be a mystic creature capable of shape-shifting into many things, so in theory he could appear as a Rocoon or Beaver. Mario used it to disguise himself as... Mario.
