Call me crazy, but the more I see Ultraman, the more I think he's the Japanese equivalent of Superman (when not written by an idiot). Both aliens who protect earth because it's the right thing to do, while inspiring hooe on the people they help.

Wonder Woman: We can't let you go.

Orion: Try to stop me.

Batman: Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me, real hard.

Well, he executed General Zod and co. in the 1980s, killed Doomsday and 'deactivated' (ahem) Cyborg Superman in the 90s... and seemed to kill Zod in Superman II. I think it's why Man of Steel didn't bother me in the slightest - I'd seen it all before.

Pulp fiction tale “Brand of the Werewolf” in Doc Savage Magazine (Jan 1934) introduced American pulp hero Doc’s Canadian cousin, Pat Savage…the Supergirl to his Superman…living on her father’s ranch in B.C. She would later reappear in the story “Fear Cay.” https://t.co/zMqVuTJlRP

Val Zod is such a special Superman. He was send to Earth in a capsule but he stayed inside for too long so he developed a fear of being in big spaces. This is a real condition called Agoraphobia. He is a pacifist and has to deal with his fears to be a hero.
