Experienced animator Yasuhisa Kato (Yu Yu Hakasho, Azumanga Daioh) provided art direction & character designs for the PC-98 original & much of the series afterward.

I'd like to track down & catalog more of these series books/guides/etc., but it's quite the rabbit hole.

Out of curiosity (and vanity) I fine-tuned on 4 photos of myself and it's hilarious😆. The images are uncanny but with the "Tom"ishness turned up. Big nose bigger, big chin bigger etc.
Can imagine training from a metahuman to use as a consistent character.
