hi kittah! im no expert, but this is how i understand water: it's mostly light and shadow. bc of that, i feel like it stands out in dark backgrounds more.
1. start with a base: i use light blue at 30% opacity to make the shape
2. hollow it out with a soft eraser
3. add highlights

5. Again, I blend the highlights on the eyelids even if the drawing is simple
The idea is just to give some volume to the eyelid!

4. Add highlights both to the iris, eyelids and the eyeball
See how the shine pops on the eye since we didn't make it actually white?
To pick the highlight color use the same logic as the shadows, but we move the hue closer to yellow and make it lighter

this art is really lovely!! but i'm a little uncomfortable with how light anne is compared to canon. i know lighting plays a part but brown skin won't naturally look like this. a good example is from the show where there's clearly highlights but overall her skin remains brown /nm

Tried adding some real and faux transparency you'd see frequently in anime to the bangs 😁

Need to make some more textures to test out different highlights next. Then onto "strand" detail for more detailed materials
