For proportions i suggest getting a modeling app (i use magicposer, but there are a LOT out there).

Coloring: take a look at everyday objects - try to understand how and where light lands. Reflective surface = more contrast & bright highlights, matte fabric = low contrast

Highlighting the reflections of Destiny’s mask has been brilliant.

We see reflections in it often when characters have not/are not being truthful to others or themselves. From a character design POV, it’s as if the statement is “you need to take a long hard look at yourself”.
