This is useful. Just grab the skin of your character and add a little of low-saturated oposite color, it will fool your mind making you think it is gray, but it isn't.
Also sometimes artists made this same effect but with purple colors, but it could look kind of green

i always thought the brown color on the top part of mayumi's armor is the shading from her head but it looks too excessive to be a shade, i kinda implemented the brown part to her armor in my recent stuff and honestly it adds a nice contrast to her saturated yellow theme
