I've gotten way looser with my sketches to save on time! With paintings like this one I immediately go into color blocking and start refining shapes, usually on 1-3 layers. The sketch is only a guideline to get the composition nailed down.

Often my first sketch is something super messy and you will never know where the character's head and butt is...
But sometime I can make a more clean sketch and even add a color to see if I like it or not :3
