Also when printing in gray the printer might add a weird color tone that wasnt intended so the final printed product will look different than the digital version. Using tone helps to reduce that risk since only black ink is used.
The shading used in manga is called "screentone." When manga is drawn traditionally, you buy sheets of tone and cut out the parts you want to shade using a knife and paste it onto the paper. The paper has glue on it so it sticks to the page easily. However,
