I just bought 16 Lego compatible horses of varying colours and patterns to build my army of fantasy warriors (plus saddles).

I used 9 of my black horses on the Nazgul figures. Need more horses for the Rohan folk and the others.

I don't really think about this too much on a conscious basis, though. I just note this is the pattern I seem to view it with, and I can sorta see it in my own artwork. Characters with stronger personalities, I draw with brighter, more vivid colors, and vice versa:
