I will always recommend Wolves by Emily Gravett. One of my absolute favourite picturebooks. Text is non-fiction, pictures tell story. It’s utterly brilliant. (Obviously Mammals, carnivores, herbivores)

A feat of paper engineering- Bookano Stories No. 2 by S. Louis Giraud (c. 1935). There were 17 of these volumes published between 1934-50. Printed using a photolitho process, they were cheaper than chromolithography used in earlier German movable books. Colours still bright today

Non Marvel/DC books I recommend are The Darkness, which is a lot like Spawn, Witchblade, Haunt which was made by Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo, Invincible, The Walking Dead, Power rangers by BOOM! studios, and any of Matt Wagner's Grendel books.

They range from good to meh, but it's mostly just fun to see all the different art styles. What is glorious are all the covers. The books I have are compilations of several issues, so the unused covers are in the final pages of the books. Just look at some:
