1809 the Battle of Corunna was fought by Sir John Moore's Army.
After gruelling marches through inhospitable terrain & snow, they were almost ready to embark. Outside the town they turned back against the French. Among the casualties was Sir John Moore himself.

1780 Admiral Rodney in HMS SANDWICH defeated a Spanish Fleet off Cape St Vincent, Portugal. After the battle he re-supplied the besieged garrisons at Gibraltar and Minorca. The victory at St Vincent owes much to ships speed due to having copper sheath hulls.
