The curse worked in such a way that so long as Anubis thinks Seth is his dad and desires to be his son, he will not grow. If you noticed throughout the story, whenever Anubis had thoughts of rejecting Seth he suddenly grew in size and Nephthys pointed it out as well. (1/2)
