Speaking of Maki, her idle sprite is slightly different in the promo video. Earlier previews of the game show she had a completely different sprite at one point, so it seems whilst most of it had been re-drawn for the promo, there was still a change to be made for final game.

While it improved some things like the idle and walk (mostly), Sonic 2 definitely had some lazy spriteworks.

Shading is all over the place. The inclusion of the "mohawk" is definitely deliberate but isn't consistent with 1 or 3.

Made some fast fixes to illustrate what I mean.

I was finally able to animate Alyssa's idle pose. This took longer than usual because it's the first female battler sprite that I made in my updated pixel art style. I hope to make faster female sprites after her! 💖
