An idea I thought about: What if fossil Pokémon where released back into the wild, and adapt to the modern environment, akin to a regional variant. I did an example with Omanyte.

Popi
A runaway experiment gone wrong. There was an attempt to revive an ancient dragon race but the fossils somehow got mixed with human bones.

Popi was found by Lazuli one nice out and he helped the escape their pursuers. Popi now currently resides in Anne's mansion.

Paraceratherium was the biggest rhino that ever lived (that we know of), rivaling the largest elephants. But even they had to start somewhere, most likely from a clumsy calf with oversized limbs.
