A lot of cell shading looks really bad, and I think I've at least partly figured it out. 2D puts shadows strategically around the edges of the figure, which accents the main features, and gives depth. Cell shading often cuts halfway across the figure in a really ugly way.

I figured out what I dislike about Pokemon’s tone.

Half the aesthetic and dialogue is written like it's meant for adult viewers while half of it is written like a show for 6 year olds.

These aesthetics are at absolute war and undermine each other constantly. [1/10]
