楽聖と称えられるドイツの作曲家ベートーヴェンの命日。ピアノ曲「エリーゼのために」や交響曲第5番「運命」、聴覚を失った状態で作られた交響曲第9番など数多くの名曲を残した。1827年のこの日、ウィーンの自宅で56歳で亡くなり、葬儀には2万人が参列したという。
