Pretty much, but I was also wondering about how much 2D you decide to use in your 3D. These images demo the idea. Long arm man is what I'd call 3D/2D. Whereas the fox is very 3D. But I could imagine creating long arm man's concept in that more 3D style and the inverse on the fox.
