Watched The Angry Red Planet (1959) a good example of 50's sci-fi horrorthe build up is a bit dull but when they get to Mars it's some quality stuff mainly thanks to the use of"CineMagic" that combined animation with live footage & some good (for the time) practical creature FX👍

Andi Watson was a cool read for me in the early 2000's. His art was deceptively simple that probably owed its influence to 1950's magazine cartoon ads. Watson's most lucrative gig was possibly as the initial writer to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series by Dark Horse.
