Slowly moving back into painting, my good friend recommended gouache as the happy place between acrylic, oil and watercolour. I finally decided to give it a go and alas, I fell in love. No more sneaking oil paints across airport border controls, I am finally free 🕊️🙏🏼

And another detail of intimacy (vol 4) vs conflict (vol 2) you can pick up on is that both seemingly depict sunset/evening colours, just in a different way.

Vol 4’s sunset shades are one of safety and warmth, while vol 2’s are colder in colour.

The ocean is a mirror that reflects the colour of the sky. Today around the UK the lapping warm waters are jade green to aquamarine blue, reflecting a cerulean blue sky. I find it is always a challenge to capture the glassy surface with watercolour.
