The shading, highlighting, and back lighting layers are all separate in the template. This lets me individually adjust the colors for each layer within each color group. I did a 4th layer of manual adjustment with a soft brush to touch up any areas that I wasn't happy with.

Doing some art to Arapuca, our new Mega Drive game. Hand draw, water colour painting, scan, and them the 16 color pixel art. I take the scan, reduce to 320x224, reduce the colors to 32 colors, then hand picked the palette to reduce to 16, and retouched all adding manual dithering

You can program an automated sequence of moves to execute when encountering a specific type of obstacle/creature. But I never used it. I preferred to control Floyd manually. But there's just not enough to do to keep it interesting. But it looks good. I wanted to enjoy it more. 🤔
