❤️ WILLIAM BLAKE
Died on this day, in 1827
“You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough.”
Today in 1827, William Blake (probably my favourite painter/visionary nutter) died. This was the deathbed scene, as recorded by a friend who was there:
Still Celebrating William Blake with this wonderful quote
"No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings"
from the Marriage of Heaven & Hell
Painting of a Juvenile Herring Gull called Bell released after rehab with me in 2020 still returns occasionally

"I saw a procession of creatures of the size and colour of green and grey grasshoppers, bearing a body laid out on a rose leaf, which they buried with songs... It was a fairy funeral." (William Blake, #DOTD 1827)

The poet, painter and printmaker William Blake died #OTD in 1827.
We've got plenty of books about him and his work that you can borrow, and on the way home, why not visit both of his grave sites at Bunhill Fields burial ground - only a Red Dragon's breath away from here!

"He who binds to himself a joy
Does the wingèd life destroy;
But he who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity's sunrise."
English poet and painter William Blake died #OTD in 1827.

William Blake, d otd 1827:
“To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.”
“Excessive sorrow laughs. Excessive joy weeps.”
“He who kisses joy as it flies by will live in eternity's sunrise.”

William Blake
November 28, 1757 – August 12, 1827
Celebrated today as an imaginative and original poet, painter, engraver and mystic, his work — especially his poetry — was largely ignored during his lifetime...

Found this on the William Blake Society Facebook group. I always knew there was a deep connection between Blake and comics! I tend to think of Blake’s illuminated manuscripts (the combination of words and images) as a precursor to modern-day comics.
