The Hudson River School is directly responding to the Romanticism movement in that it takes "natural" beauty and makes it.... "more", in a way that you could almost call campy or kitsch. A fantastical reality where everything is more than perfect.

Currently struck by how you can directly trace a lineage between current commercial sci-fi/fantasy art and the Hudson River School movement. I don't often see contemporary work placed into historical context, so here's some examples. (Sources/credit/information in alt text.)
