When you're 18 you can clock hours and not even notice, I think that's why you quickly get good at stuff at that age. I remember spending all day animating back then, now at 29 my neck hurts like shit if I draw for a couple hours without breaks. And that's fine, it's just reality

Here's a handy tip for animating a walk cycle. The lowest point in the cycle ISN'T the heelstrike, nor the crossover the highest. Instead, the characater reaches full lowness or height a moment *after* the key pose in question.
