Some little tidbits that might be worth a mention. Green/Blue's design is based on a girl trainer design by Sugimori made for the Red&Green guidebook. Also, Imposter Oak's sprite was found in one of the Gold&Silver beta builds.

Ash vs Gary in the Silver Conference Top 16 is the only full battle that Ash been in, in which Pikachu did not participate. The funny thing is that Pikachu was not sent to Oak's Lab, so he definitely broke the rules but that's a story for another day.
