1316: Edward Bruce, Earl of Carrick (younger brother of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland) crowned himself king of Ireland near Dundalk, Co Louth. Had invaded Ireland the previous year. Stayed another 2 1/2 yrs but killed Oct 1318 at Battle of Faughart (near where crowned).

Just back from after 2 1/2 weeks. I absolutely loved Donegal and the area where we now have a home, So peaceful + beautiful, unlike any other area we have seen in The beach at a short drive from away house.
