Each Alchemical has their own unique personality for a standard magical girl team. In flashbacks we see them fleshed out a bit more, but that only happens after the main event occurs. Meaning the characters we are supposed to connect to don't get a lot of development.

I think biggest problem here is that people are assuming the flashback is Kira's. This really doesn't make sense with what we're seeing.
The person we see that most people call "Kira" looks closer to the post-fusion Josuke. Kira has never worn his hat in that style.

The most common one is Damo, despite him being possibly as far away from the Flashback Man in appearance that you can get.
If it were somehow him, it would be a completely unprecedented change that's 10 times more drastic than any of the one's we've seen before.

Another I've heard is Kira, despite him appearing in the next chapter.
I guess they're talking about the long hair but somehow think it completely changed in style and color.
This also doesn't even make sense with the framing of the flashback.

Most discussion is about how he won't come back, or trying to write him off as an "early design" of another character.
