Going back to the "enemies to friends" trope, sonic has been thru it all before and it's turned out well for him
But I think unlike the past, Sonic and Surge's ideals clash too hard this time for them to make amends, and I hope the story onwards doesnt make it easy for sonic
I think these two aspects of his character tend to clash a little, leading him to come off as if he means well (he does) but in a way his methods can feel a little... toxic?

Maybe its due to his simplistic nature that he fails to really see between the lines
He's, at his core, a free spirit. And so he believes everyone has and should have the freedom to do what they want. On the other hand, he's a hero with a bit of a savior complex, he doesnt want those dear to him to get hurt, yet he always believes anyone bad can turn a new leaf.
