There are countless other manga that follow this convention. The yellow hair isn’t meant to make her look more European (which so many people on Twitter are wrongly equating as more desirable). It’s an old convention that denotes her as the funny one.

If you saw my last post thumbing through my European sketchbook, you might have seen this page flip by. This was drawn at a cafe in Florence, Italy, across the street from what I believe was an art school.

I‘m sure that as Manta, Mannoko has been living, studying and even working abroad. But not in America, I think. Maybe in Italy or France. Being surrounded by Europeans for a long time, she adopted some of their habits and style of clothing. She’s 26 here.
