He became an Associate of the RA in 1864, rising to become President (1878-96). Male Figure (1865), Mrs James Guthrie (1866), Courtyard of a Mosque (1867) & the Isle of Chios (c1867). His success meant that he was able to gain financially from the society portrait market.
