My Dutch mother gave me a treasured a copy of Sprookjes van Hans Andersen (1915). Dutch illustrator, Rie Cramer (1887-1977) was influenced by Beardsley, Rackham & Dulac. I always loved this poignantly naked figure of the Little Mermaid once she'd lost her tail. #FolkloreThursday

From the 1920s Rackham’s work became popular in the United States. The 1930s saw the release of deluxe editions of his work. They are still being published today.
September 19, 1867: English book illustrator Arthur Rackham is born.
In his lifetime, Rackham illustrated more than 60 books, ranging from Grimm's Fairy Tales to Shakespeare, Dickens, Milton, and Edgar Allan Poe.
