its weird that tigrex despite being a very basal member of the wyvern family lacks the overlaping shells/plates that its other "close" relatives have, and then you have barioth which comes from a derived group has them while his "close" relatives lacks them.

The animal is rarely spotted live, so we didn't entirely know what it looked like for quite a long time. This is because it is a deep ocean dweller. However its shells are an incredibly common find on the surface of beaches.
