I made a quick 10 minute or so doodle of what my Yoshi would look like if they were based on my Minccino.
Yoshi's pretty hard to draw. The fact that many of you artists can effortlessly generate amazing looking Yoshis into existence utterly baffles me.

Found some 3 year old practice art. I was inspired by some of Ryo Sumiyoshi's 人馬 sketches.
Super Mario Odyssey has a great art style and many of the older enemies were partially redesigned in a similar fashion to Yoshi's Island, NSMB, or Super Mario Galaxy. I really hope they keep using these enemy/character designs in spinoffs like Mario Kart or Paper Mario.

I have this tendency with pixel art to try to make tiles as textured and detailed as I can make it, but the end result looks so muddy.
I look at games like Yoshi's Island or Super Tempo, and they both remind me that excessive detail isn't everything.

Started playing Yoshi's Island DS, just beat the first boss and so far I honestly don't have much to say besides that the game feels like the SNES one but *just* different enough for it to not be a remake. Also the music isn't great, and the sprite quality is... inconsistent
Internal files for Yoshi's Island show that the original concept for Hookbill the Koopa was a Birdo/Koopa hybrid creature. Despite being consistently paired up with Yoshi in Mario spin-off games, Birdo or anything Birdo-related has never appeared in a single Yoshi game.
@AleyckTW Baby Peach's Yoshi's Island render with colored eyes was the deciding factor for me. I just figured humans have eye color. Peach has black eyes in this image from Inside Story, so I figured that was only a Mario & Luigi specific art style thing.
This is a very interesting point and a great topic! There aren't any references for adult characters in Yoshi's Island Style. I had to do some digging on how I think the renders would look.
