'Narratively better' is pretty valueless in a series focused on fighting when the climactic fight ends up being boring. Narrative should improve the fight, not hinder it.

And they make it easy to show when Hit is moving in timeskip. Lots of other manga also manage this (ie JoJo)

Each arc had it's own villain, and with each villain there was always a climactic fight to look forward to. After the first few arcs, the villains started to seem like actual threats. You knew the main characters would win of course, but you always wanted to see it happen
