Layers allow you to be sloppy and build ontop of things in a way I think you'll find freeing. Map things out with shapes and crude guidelines, then build slowly... Like making a delicious cake for your eyes.

okay so i've been touring kaeya's model today cause god his outfit is a damn mystery...and um

there's like extra mesh, like chibi faces. It's rigged with a morpher(at least in 3dsmax) and it's set to move forward ontop of the face and then recede back.
