Artist & activist Joe Jones 1909 in St Louis, Missouri. Largely self-taught, he left school at 15 to work as a house painter. He lived for a while in a houseboat & painted several New Deal murals.Although a communist he was enlisted as a combat artist during WW2.

Jackson Pollock earned his nickname ‘Jack the Dripper’ by his unique method of painting: he splashed painting on a canvas, typical for his dynamic and unpredictable personality.

‘The Water Bull’ is now on display in Stedelijk BASE. Jackson Pollock was in 1912.
