but not all caterpillars have osmeteria. only larvae from the family Papilionidae (AKA swallowtail butterflies) have them.

as we may all know, caterpie will eventually evolve into butterfree, but if you look closely butterfree doesn't have a swallowtail.

butterfree ain't shit.

a quick entomology lesson relating to pokemon:

so the red thing on caterpie's head in real life caterpillars is actually called an osmeterium, and it's a defensive organ that sprouts when papilionidae larvae feel threatened, so

to sum up, caterpie feels 24/7 threatened.

I’m a papermâché artist & avid DIY’er. I ❤️ making weird art that’s also interestingly useful. Like this octopus is actually hallow on the inside & has a secret stash compartment underneath to hide your goods! The skeleton hand & caterpillar are both wall-hangable hand mirrors

tuli is an unruly cubone who had no intention of becoming a rescuer until reuniting caterpie with its mother made him realize the importance of it. he didn't have a name when he met kaori, so she named him after tulips, which symbolize kindness, but he doesn't know this.
