I'd refer to Mr Bauchau's style as “dystopian retrofuture.” A type of parallel evolution that might have unfolded on a nearby planet. It reminds me of the medieval future setting of my favorite anime, Attack on Titan.

Too much world building. They focused WAY too much on setting up the world they’re in and not enough on their story. Funnily enough, HGS’s story is better than SB’s, but SB’s world building is phenomenal. —>
