The Super Mario Bros. Super Show has very little information about the production of the show so it's really hard to see early concepts. Luckily I was able to purchase an early design Production Cel of Princess Toadstool who has Don Bluth like features a while back in 2018.

Of course, it becomes waaaay more complicated once cel-shading is taken into account damn.
Hardest part about cel-shading is figuring out at each stage: "Is it alright now and will the final result still look good."
The more detailed you go with cel-shading, the harder it gets.
