06/31 Coelophysis!

Being my state fossil, I’ve always had a soft spot for coelophysis. It was a swift predator that may or may not have lived in large groups, but regardless, their presence marks a turning point for life on earth: the true dawn of the dinosaurs!

Wonambi naracoortensis (Giant Python) was a genus of non-venomous, constrictor snakes which acted as an ambush predator that killed its prey by constriction. It lived in modern day Australia about 23-0.01 MYA. Wonambi is the Aboriginal word for “rainbow serpent.”

Is it a shrimp? Is it a jellyfish?
Nope. It's pseudo-anomalocaris! Extremely happy because of how its fossils would confuse paleontologists in the future.

Eumecichthys fiski //

The unicorn crestfish lives in open water at around 1000 m (3300 ft) deep. Despite its slender body, fossils suggest that its early relatives looked more like their shorter, round-bodied cousin, the opah.
