Raised as an only child, Andersen saw in the "The Wild Swans" a fantasy of sibling solidarity that he could not realize in real life. The story was published in his Danish Folktales of 1823.

Some Philippine folktales tell of people transforming into birds (usually rice birds) when not given enough food to eat. In some versions, it's a daughter whose mom doesn't feed her enough. In others, it's workers whose employer doesn't give them enough food.

In “A Bird Steals Iyawo’s Baby” a Yoruba (Nigeria) folktale, Iyale, a greedy senior wife gets her comeuppance when she loses her baby to a magical bird. Iyawo, the younger wife makes out with bags of treasure and her healthy baby.

Perrault used images familiar to him, eg the Chateau Ussé for The Sleeping Beauty, & the Marquis of the Château d'Oiron as the Marquis de Carabas in Puss in Boots. He also ornamented his folktales with details, asides & subtext drawn from the world of fashion.

In the Sicilian folktale "Saint Oniria," two lost hunters take refuge in a cottage in the woods, where they find the heart of a dead saint. They take it with them to an inn. The innkeeper's daughter steals it, eats it, & gives birth to a reborn Saint Oniria.

An easy one to reference are Mermaids/Sirens.

The Little Mermaid is based on a Danish tale.

Sirena is a local legend/folktale on Guam (Micronesian Island - Pacific Islander)
