A reaction to the formality and grandeur of the Baroque style, French Rococo (1730-1770) portraiture featured lighter, more whimsical social scenes and “an abundance of pastel tones.” Jean-Honoré Fragonard; “The Shepherdess” (c.1750-1752)

Manspreading may be the new name for “male gender-based conceptions of personal space on public transport”, but this practice goes back a long way ~ here’s Honoré Daumier’s “In the Omnibus” from over 150 years ago / & a 1953 plea about seating on NY subway

The See-Saw (c. 1751) was painted in the Rococo style by a 19-year old Jean-Honoré Fragonard.

It's a typical colorful and lively work by Fragonard. And the girl swinging up adds a level of dynamism that is rare for paintings from that period.
