One thing I really liked about season 1 designs that didn't translate to the rest of symphogear as well is how they could simplify designs from far away in charming ways, I love when shows retain the appeal of characters at a distance instead of them looking a weird blob.

Something else I rely on a lot is PS's Gradient Map Adjustment Layer. Sometimes I use it a reduced opacity to bring some unity to the colors, other times I use it at 100% in order to simplify the color scheme. Wonderful tool, so many options with it.
